We perform a variety of surgeries on dogs and cats at Petvise Animal Hospital. They include spay and neuter surgery, mass and tumor removal, cystotomy for bladder stones, gastrointestinal surgery, pyometra surgery, wound and laceration repair, enucleation, aural hematoma repair, eyelid mass removal, mammary mass surgery, and selected orthopedic procedures.If your pet needs surgery we can examine them and discuss whether the procedure can be performed at our hospital or whether it would be more appropriate to refer to a specialist.

Do you perform orthopedic surgery for dogs and cats?

Yes. Depending on the type and complexity of the orthopedic injury, Petvise Animal Hospital will evaluate and address some orthopedic surgeries. Surgeons often will order diagnostic X-rays before deciding how best to do surgery.Some complicated fractures or joint conditions may require a referral to a board-certified veterinary surgeon.

Is pre-anesthetic bloodwork required before surgery?

Pre-anesthetic bloodwork is recommended and is included with many of our scheduled surgical procedures. Blood testing helps us evaluate important factors such as red and white blood cells, kidney function, liver values, glucose, electrolytes, and other indicators that may affect anesthesia.Additional testing may be recommended for senior pets or pets with underlying medical conditions.

What should I expect after my pet comes home?

It is common for pets to be tired or quieter than usual after anesthesia. Depending on the procedure, your pet may need restricted activity, medications, an Elizabethan collar or recovery suit, incision monitoring, and a follow-up examination.

How do I care for my pet's incision after surgery?

Accepted Answer

Keep the incision clean and dry and prevent your pet from licking or chewing the surgical area. Avoid bathing or swimming until your veterinarian says the incision has healed sufficiently.Check the incision at least once or twice daily for excessive redness, swelling, discharge, bleeding, or opening.
